Japan Flora: Leaves rather thick, 60-80 cm. long, 1.5-2.5 cm. wide, flat, smooth, glaucous, ascending, arcuate above; scapes nearly as long as the leaves, slightly thickened, often with few linear subfoli- aceous bracts; inflorescence short, forked, few-flowered, the bracts linear-lanceolate, 2-8 cm. long, the upper bracts membranous on margin, the pedicels 1-2 cm. long, the lower portion adnate to the rachis; flowers orange-yellow, 10-13 cm. long, the perianth-tube 1-2 cm. long, the inner segments narrowly oblong, subobtuse, 3-3.5 cm. wide, with prominent cross-veins, membranous and undulate on margin. May-July. Chinese plant rarely cultivated in Japan.
