Japan Flora: Glabrous evergreen large shrub with gray-white branches and thick, lenticel!ate branchlets; leaves very thick-coriaceous, oblong, 8-15 cm. long, 3-6 cm. wide, acute at both ends, entire, die petioles reddish, 2-3 cm. long, dilated in upper part; flowers white, 6-7 mm. across, the pedicels about 1 cm. long, recurved in fruit; calyx-lobes deltoid, entire, Oct.-Nov.
Kyushu (s. distr.); possibly not spontaneous. Tokara Isis, (according to S. Hatusima).
