Japan Flora: Deciduous shrub, the young branches coarsely hairy, later glabrate, lustrous reddish brown, the spines 15-35 mm. long; leaves pubescent on both sides, 7-9 cm. long, 5-6 cm. wide, rather deeply 3-cleft in vigorous elongate shoots, the petioles hairy, 15-30 mm. long; inflorescence densely flowered, coarsely hairy along with the young fruits; flowers about 1.5 cm. across; styles 3-5, nearly terminal.
Hokkaido; rare. e. Siberia, Manchuria, Sakhalin, and Korea.
