Japan Flora: Deciduous woody vine with lenticcllate, glabrous branches; leaves pctiolate, ternately 2- or 3-pinnatc, 12-30 cm. long, glabrous or nearly so, the leaflets petiolulate, ovate or oblong, sometimes narrowly oblong, 4-7 cm. long, acuminate, acute at base, with few appressed teeth, the lowest leaflets ternately parted or lobed; the tendrils 2-fid; inflorescence pubcrulous, large, apparently terminal and pedunculate; flowers short-pcdicclled, greenish yellow, about 2 mm. across; disc 5-toothed; fruit globose, red. July-Aug. Thickets and woods.
