Korea Flora: Deciduous tree. Height 15m. Diameter 50-70cm. Winter buds and branchlets ovoid to conical, apex acute, with 5-6 scales, terminal buds equal to or slightly larger than lateral buds (3-5mm long). Flower buds round to broadly ovate, large. Branchlets with woolly hairs, leaf scars shallow semicircular or triangular. Leaves alternate, obovate-elliptical, apex caudate-acuminate, base asymmetrically cuneate, size 4-8cm × 2-6(7)mm, margin with sharp double serration, upper surface scabrous or smooth, lower surface with relatively abundant hairs on midrib and lateral veins. Petiole 3-7(10)mm long, pubescent. Flowers perfect, about 10 flowers fascicled on two-year-old branches. Perianth campanulate, shallowly 4-divided. Stamens 4, opposite to perianth lobes, exserted; stigmas 2, ovary unilocular with single embryo. Fruit and seeds samara, spoon-shaped or elliptical, 10-15mm long, with fine hairs in central portion, seeds attached slightly above wing center.
