Korea Flora: Deciduous small tree. young branches hairs, and the two-year-old branches reddish-brown lenticels or not. Leaves alternately arranged, round or broadly spatulate, hairless on both surfaces, typically large, measuring 7-14cm × 4-12cm, with the upper part lobed like the leaves of a Zelkova tree. edges large sharp teeth or deeply incised serrations. Leaf tip long and tail-like, and base flat, rounded, or slightly heart-shaped. Petiole 7-15mm long and hairy.  Flowers polygamous (both bisexual and unisexual flowers), with flower stalks 1.5-2.5cm long. Fruit round, 13mm × 10mm, maturing to black. Fruit stalk 10-20mm long and hairless.

Sporophyte chromosome number: 20.

Flowering: April to May.

Fruiting: September to October.

Distribution: Central China; in Korea, found in Hamgyongbuk-do, Pyongan-namdo, Pyonganbuk-do, northern Hwanghae-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, southern Gangwon-do, and Chungcheongbuk-do.
