Korea Flora: Deciduous tree or small shrub.  Leaves alternately arranged. Leaves on long branches ovate or long-ovate, with an acuminate tip, rounded or slightly heart-shaped base, and asymmetrical sides, measuring 7-12cm × 3.4-5.7cm. Leaves on old branches 2-7.5cm × 1-4.5cm. upper half of the leaf edge a few serrations, with no serrations near the pointed tip.  hairs on both the surface and the central vein on the underside, and three pairs of lateral veins. petiole on long branches 8-12mm long, while on fruiting branches 5-10mm long, with hairs. Flowers polygamous (both bisexual and unisexual flowers). petals 4. stipules narrow and long, falling off early.  fruit round, 6-7mm in diameter, black, with densely packed white hairs at the base. fruit stalk 10-20mm long and hairless.

Flowering : April to May.

Fruiting : October to early November.

Distribution: Northern, central, and southern China; northern Gyeonggi-do and Hwanghae-do in Korea.
