Korea Flora: Shrub up to 10m. bark gray, smooth. Twigs pubescent, yellowish young and dull reddish in second year. Bud scales 2 pairs, Leaves deciduous leaf blade ovate, 5-lobed, petiole 4-13 cm, puberulent when young; leaf blade ovate, 5-10 × 5-8 cm, abaxially hirsute-pubescent on veins, adaxially glabrous, middle lobes not serrate apically; leaves in fall yellow, Inflorescence racemose, pedicel 2.5 cm, peduncle pubescent, 1.5cm long, sepals and petals yellowish green, sepals 4, ,stamens 4, Samaras 5-7m, wings spreading obtusely. nutlets subglobose, 3-3.5cm × 0.8-1.2cm, strongly veined
2n= 26.
Flowering late May to June
Fruting mid Sept to early Oct.
Distribution Northeastern China, Far eastern Russia; far North, North (Baekdudaegan)
Russia Flora: Shrub up to 5 (7) m tall. Terminal buds 4-5 mm long, elongated-conical, dark cherry-colored, with very fine pubescence. Shoots purple-red or brownish-green, glabrous, covered with more or less thick layer of transparent cuticle. Leaves 3-5-lobed, 6-10 cm long, 5-9 cm wide, with cordate or truncate base, incised-serrate or coarsely doubly serrate, thin, with scattered hairs above, densely hairy along veins below (especially in their angles); middle lobe significantly larger than upper lateral ones, lower lobes often appearing as large teeth; upper lobes with long sharp tips. Petioles 3-12 cm long, shorter or longer than leaf blade, finely pubescent. Male inflorescences few-flowered umbels with finely pubescent pedicels; male flowers yellow, with 5 stamens. Female inflorescences few-flowered racemes with finely pubescent axes and pedicels; female flowers yellow, 4-5 mm in diameter, half-open; petals about 3 mm long, obovate; sepals somewhat shorter than petals, ovate. Samaras about 3.5 cm long, diverging at obtuse angle. 2n=26 (Gurzenkov, 1973). (Table XIX).

Distribution: Ussuri (central, south). (Fig. 66). - In understory of Korean pine and black fir-broadleaved forests, less frequently ascending to dark coniferous forest zone. Flowering in May. Ornamental, rare in landscaping. Honey plant.

General distribution: Japanese-Chinese (Northeast China, Korean Peninsula). - Described from Primorye: "In forests at sources of Li-Fudin River, C. Maximowicz" (type - LE).
