Japan Flora: Small glabrous shrub, the branches ascending or spreading toward the base; stipules membranous, linear, 2-3 mm. long, mucro­nate; leaves oblong-ovate to ovate-elliptic, 4-8 cm. long, 2.5-4 cm. wide, rather obtuse, acute at base, shallowly undulate- serrate, the petioles 5-12 mm. long; inflorescence terminal, spicate, pedunculate, glabrous, the spikes 10-18, ascending, 2-3 cm. long; stamens 3, the filaments connate.

Chinese shrub long cultivated in Japan.
