Russia Flora: Plant to 30 cm. Root fleshy, coral-like. Stem light brown, with 2-3 membranous sheaths. Inflorescence raceme to 8 cm, 2-10(13) flowers. Bracts to 2 mm, lanceolate, shorter than ovary. Pedicels to 2.5 mm. Flowers nodding, glabrous, yellowish-brown to greenish-white. Sepals to 5 mm, oblong-lanceolate. Lip shorter, to 4 mm, ovate, whitish, below middle with one blunt tooth each side, near base with 2 longitudinal reddish stripes and spots. Column slightly curved, to 2.5 mm. Capsule to 10 mm.
Distribution: Chukotka, Anadyr-Penzhina, Koryak, Kamchatka, Aldan, Okhotsk, Lower Zeya, Buryatia, North Kuriles; reported for Sakhalin. Moist forests, alder thickets, rarely shrub-moss tundra. Flowering June-July. General: Europe, Caucasus, Western & Eastern Siberia, Central Asia; Scandinavia, Atlantic & Central Europe, Mediterranean, Asia Minor, Mongolia, Japan-China, North America (Alaska, Greenland). Described from Northern Europe.
