Japan Flora: Stipes 15-30 cm. long; sterile blade fleshy and softly herba­ceous, ovate to deltoid-ovate, rarely oblong, 6-12 cm. long, 3-7 cm. wide, usually sessile, with a cordate to sometimes truncate base embracing the base of peduncle of the sporophyll, the venation with oblong areoles and sometimes with secondary areoles and numerous secondary connecting veinlets. Apr.-July.

Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu. Widely dis­tributed in the temperate areas of the N. Hemisphere.
