Japan Flora: Tall deciduous tree with stout, glabrous, gray­ish yellow-brown branchlets; leaves 25-30 cm. long, 7- to 9- foliolate, mostly glabrous or occasionally scattered-hairy on the leaflets beneath, the petioles shallowly and rather narrowly grooved on upper side, dilated at base and somewhat clasping; terminal leaflets petiolate, narrowly cuneate at base, 8-15 cm. long, 3-7 cm. wide, the lateral ones gradually smaller, broadly oblanceolate, rarely narrowly oblong, sessile, slightly oblique, minutely toothed, acuminate to abruptly acute; panicles 10-15 cm. long, glabrous; flowers apetalous; calyx cup-shaped, ir­regularly toothed; samaras pendulous, broadly lanceolate, 4 cm. long, 8-15 mm. wide, usually narrowed at both ends, the pedi­cels 5-10 mm. long.  Mountains;

Honshu (Kanto Distr. and westw.), Shikoku, Kyushu.
