Japan Flora: Subshrub with branched woody base; stems 50-100 cm. long, erect, the branches rather slender; leaves membranous, rhomboid-ovate, 4-8 cm. long, 2.5나 cm. wide, caudate at apex, coarsely toothed, cuneate to broadly cuneate at base, slightly pilose on both sides especially on the nerves beneath, the petioles usually reddish; glomerules of staminate flowers loosely arranged, small, the pistillate perianth minutely puberulous; achenes about 1 mm. long; stigma slender, rather elongate. Aug.-Oct. Mountains;

Honshu, Shikoku, Kyu-shu; common. China.
